Reading at Home

Reading at Home

At Hambrook, we follow the Collins Big Cat Reading Scheme to support our pupils when they are reading at home. From early phonic development to fluent reading, Collins Big Cat is a whole-school programme that provides complete support for primary reading. This includes supporting the delivery of effective phonics provision through the use of fully decodable books which are aligned to the Letters and Sounds Programme.

To further inspire a 'reading culture' at Hambrook, each teacher has created a recommended reading list for their year group. Books from this list can be read at home alongside banded reading books. These lists can be found in the Class Information section of the website.

Please see our dedicated Phonics page for resources and guidance on how to support word reading at home: http://www.hambrook-pri.s-gloucs.sch.uk/website/phonics_at_hambrook/520181
